Do This, Feel Happy for 12 Hours

December 9, 2010

By Real Age

Spend 20 easy minutes doing this and you could help guarantee a good mood for 12 hours: walk.

That’s what a recent study revealed. A short, moderately paced workout produced feel-good brain chemicals that lasted up to 12 hours afterward.

Step Up to Happy
In the study, college students either rested quietly for 20 minutes or cycled on a stationary bike for the same amount of time. And the cyclers weren’t even really pushing it. They merely exercised at a mild to moderate pace (60 percent of maximum heart rate). Both groups reported lower levels of negative emotions — like anger, depression, fatigue, and tension — immediately after the experiment as well as 2 hours later. But only the cyclers continued to enjoy their happier mindset a full 12 hours after the workout session. (Here’s another easy way to brighten your mood.)

How do you find your rose colored glasses in the face of adversity?

October 22, 2010

The overall outcome may not be what you desire, but you could go down in history with a lofty superlative.

That’s what happened to Aroldis Chapman, a 22-year-old that failed his first attempt defecting from Cuba in 2008. Cuban President Raul Castro had suspended him from participating in his passion, baseball. In 2009, he made the painful decision of attempting to defect, this time successfully, yet leaving behind his parents, sisters, girlfriend and a new born baby.

The gamble …

Having made some painful sacrifices, he continued working through the unknown hardships that would emerge. Until he was noticed by some Major League baseball scouts and suddenly found himself awarded a multi-million dollar contract.

There’s a Lady in My Locker Room

September 23, 2010

At what point does “uncomfortable” get you in trouble?
A Mexican TV reporter was preparing to interview New York Jets quarterback, Mark Sanchez, yet felt uncomfortable enough during her wait in the locker room to make this vague claim via Twitter. This issue has set off quite a bit of castigating while resurrecting some old controversy about women reporters in men’s locker rooms.

The real life issue here is that the word “uncomfortable” is vague and has immensely varied opinions as to when it becomes an actionable offense?

Passion – How to Have the Heart

September 3, 2010

Secrets of the emotional, physical and nutritional game

It’s not enough to be “sexually steamy;” it’s also about the ability to exhibit strong and powerful emotions. This act requires long duration intensity, not short term, and random moments of peak, then passing desire.

Sustaining passion depends upon endurance and that boils down to chemistry and conditioning.

Since February is National Heart Month, it’s an excellent opportunity to begin a jogging program and a good first step in creating a “potion for passion.”

If Everyone Had Nothing, Who Would Stand Out in the Crowd?

May 28, 2010

So, last week was interesting, to say the least … I smashed the whole front end of my eight month old vehicle. Luckily, I was fine, no subsequent injuries, not even a bit of soreness… $5300 later, I continue to remain emotionless about the whole thing.

Why?
Seconds after the 30 mph collision, during 5:00 pm traffic on a rain slick highway, my thoughts instantly defaulted to my GOOD fortune …
