What is HIIT?

August 31, 2010

HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) is cardio performed at such an intense level that your body will spend the rest of the day expending energy to recover from the ass-kicking you gave it. This is commonly referred to as EPOC (excess post-exercise oxygen consumption) and it means that you consume a great deal more oxygen recovering from the exercise bout than you would have if you’d just done a steady-state workout.

This means that you will be burning up to nine times more fat while sitting on the couch later that night than you would have if you’d spent an hour on the treadmill at a moderate pace.

Introducing Our New Guest Blogger, Cynthia Sager

August 2, 2010

My name is Cynthia and I am a mother of three boys. I have several passions and running happens to be one of them. I’m a long distance runner and completed my first marathon in Vegas at the end of 2005. In the interim, I’ve run half marathons. My goal and dream is to one day qualify for Boston. Another one of my passions is cycling and swimming. I race in duathlons and will be racing my first triathlon this coming summer. As you can see I’m very sport specific but my “GREATEST” passion of all is being able to share my experiences, motivate, help others achieve their goals and have fun and stay injury-free!

Partner Up to Keep on the Training Track

July 16, 2010

Exercise partners can offer a great situation, yet sometimes disastrous …
Ever have one that was great friends, yet not dedicated or committed?
How about one that you were not all that fond of, but were very dependable?
Since I train so early, I’ve had a partner you couldn’t talk to for the first half hour.
I’ve had ones led the work out, while other’s would follow my lead.

How do you find a good training partner?
It’s quite simple; just watch who’s into it and who’s not.
It’s always best to observe the ones that are already in the gym – someone that has been regimented for some time.
