How Can America Spend More On Health Care & Fall Short On Services?

August 24, 2009

One of the biggest reasons why our health care system falls short is the fact that we have a fragmented system. Having such a system promotes inefficiencies which in turn lead to unnecessary spending. Such spending manifests itself in a number of ways:

  1. Lack of spending on health information technology. The United States is disorganized when it comes to health information systems. This is an item President Obama is trying to remedy with electronic medical records. An easy solution would be a tax credit for all Doctors to acquire EMR’s for their practices.

Pharmaceutical Companies Cut Drug Prices By $80 Billion

August 21, 2009

Recently the White House, lawmakers, and the pharmaceutical industry established an agreement to cut Medicare drug costs by $80 billion over the next ten years. Although viewed as a “turning point” by the Obama Administration, there has been some criticism as President Obama throughout his campaign and recent term has vowed to dissociate from lobbyist influences.

However, over the years the spending on Medicaid and Medicare has grown to an exuberant amount in conjunction with a budget that already has a huge deficit. So how will such a cut in drug prices influence Medicare?

The Underinsured

August 20, 2009

In the current health care discussions, the term “underinsured” has been often used. As the economy began its decline in the last few years, many employers, especially small businesses, were forced to find ways to cut costs in order to stay afloat. One area that was hit was the provision of benefits. Companies opted for less expensive health insurance coverage or reduced the employer contribution. As a result, millions of working Americans were insured, but had additional related costs.

HIPAA: Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act

August 19, 2009

A common question that our Advisors at MyInsuranceExpert receive from clients is: I have a letter of creditable coverage, so doesn’t this mean that I can automatically get coverage? This is a dicey question, and is most frequently brought up by individuals with pre-existing conditions who may not qualify for individual private insurance coverage. If you have a letter of creditable coverage, this can be very beneficial for obtaining health insurance coverage. The letter of creditable coverage is associated with HIPAA, an act put into place by the U.S. Congress in 1996.

Individual Health Plans

August 18, 2009

You may have noticed more advertising of individual health insurance coverage in the last year or so. Given the current economic environment, many individuals and families are choosing to secure health insurance coverage outside of a group plan. For some, this may be due to being self-employed. For others, it may be less expensive than the plan offered by their employer. For what ever the reason, more and more people are seeking individual health plans as offered by many insurance carriers.

August 17, 2009

As we all well know, the House of Representatives are on their summer recess, but that doesn’t mean their work on the health care reform is on hold. Members are now taking the discussion back to town halls in their local districts. There, they hope to hold discussion forums on the health care reform in an attempt to educate constituents on the progress that has been made, answer questions, and also gain insightful comments from the American people.

Buy Health Insurance You Can Afford

August 14, 2009

An unfortunate trend, although not one that is terribly prevalent, that MyInsuranceExpert.com has observed from its clients is the termination of a health insurance policy as a result of insufficient payment for the premium. This is always disheartening to see since the clients signed up to protect themselves from financial ruin, and now are walking around unprotected and uninsured. Because of our Advisors’ commitment to their clients we are typically able to find them a new policy. However, I want to stress the importance of finding a plan that not only addresses what you are looking for in coverage, but more importantly your budget.
