Why Tie Health Insurance to a Job?

January 30, 2009

Health care costs are increasing at twice the rate of inflation and today lifetime employment is almost nonexistent. The average American, by age 42, will change jobs 11 times. To stay away from the increasing health care costs, companies are forced to raise their employees’ premiums and deductibles, use cheaper insurance plans or just drop health benefits altogether. According to the Wall Street Journal, the percentage of employers providing health insurance since 2000 has declined by 10%.

What You Need To Know When Purchasing Health Insurance

January 21, 2009

When shopping for health insurance you need to take the necessary steps to finding the best plan for yourself or your family. First and foremost, only an advisor who represents all the available companies (like Aetna, Blue Cross, and Humana) can shop for the best policy. It is important to not buy from someone who represents one insurance company and is trying to convince you that that one company has the best plan for you or your family.

Are you self employed without any health insurance? There are a large number of Americans that are uninsured; many of them entrepreneurs, but there are many affordable options available. Instead of being a group of one, it’s smarter and less expensive to own individual health insurance. Remember to compare several policies and evaluate which benefits are crucial for you.

Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA)

January 13, 2009

Health Reimbursement Arrangements allow employees to own their own individual health insurance while the employer takes advantage of lower rates and fixed costs. A health reimbursement arrangement is an agreement between all employees of a company and ownership of that company that permits a fixed dollar amount to be reimbursed to each employee for health related expenses, for example premiums, prescriptions or even over the counter medications. This puts more of the financial responsibility in the hands of the employee and the employer doesn’t dictate what the employee’s must accept as a health benefit. This concept leads to more active and cost efficient participation by the employees and reduces health care costs. HRA’s are available for any size employer group, and the typical HRA is designed to be used along with a health plan that has higher deductibles and fewer co-payments then the usual health plan.

Health Insurance Worries After Graduation

January 12, 2009

Graduating from college can mean many things for young adults. For most it means getting that real-world job, moving back home and unfortunately, losing their health insurance.

Odds are most college graduates were covered by their parent’s health insurance policy while they were a full-time student. Depending on the insurance plan, once those graduates reach the ages of 22 to 25, most health insurance plans will stop covering them and those benefits could end immediately. The student might have been covered by a health plan offered through their college or university, which also ends when they graduate.

January 8, 2009

My Insurance Expert CEO Lorne Zalesin has tried his expertise in four industries — cell phones and pagers, land development, design and housing — only to run head on into Michigan’s slumping economy. Even that hasn’t scared Zalesin away; he came up with the idea of an online service that makes individual health and life insurance affordable and easily attainable.

In late 2006, MyInsuranceExpert.com was created, a free insurance service that matches up insurance brokers with people who want to purchase low-cost health or life insurance. People begin by contacting the Internet site, or calling 800-732-5569.
